for the better part of 2012 i been tinkering around with my own music sheit, aiming to release a “demo tape” (online as well as on actual cassette tape). the hour is now upon us: this is probly the best collection of songs i’ve ever produced. the ingestion of which is made all the more easier by the entertaining interludes that also litter it (consisting of ppl i know saying random crap). while my vocal abilities could always improve, i stand by all the music on this 90min monster of a demo. a good portion of these will get the proper makeover and released as singles with guest vocalists (followed shortly thereafter by my first ever real foray into music videos. exciting stuff (for me)). as always, for anyone who has ever followed my solo musical endeavours, this shit is FO FREE. i’ve never charged money for my music for anyone and any situation, and i don’t intend to start now. i know that makes me sound like i’m up my own ass, but i merely state that as someone who enjoys a shitload of free music, it ain’t no thang for me to do the same. besides, i’ve never relied on any aspects of my creative self for financial stability. hard enuf trin to find any kinda work these days, let alone ur dream shit. ANYways, as we return from tangentland, please enjoy the following demo with an open mind and sense of humour. i feel closest to this project more than any other right now, like i just released a baby from my teet (i’ll stop talking now).

a 79min roller-coaster ride of the various musical nuggets i’ve concocted over the years. features released, unreleased and some REALLY unreleased material. stuff ranging back from 2002/03 when i first started all the way up to November 2011. for reasons that no longer matter, i got sick of holding on to large quantities of unfinished music. ideas come and go, but a finished product seems to be hard to come by. so instead of agonising over a small handful of songs, i thought i’d go in the opposite direction and just dump 75 of em on y’all instead. luckily each track has been trimmed to an average length b/w 30secs-1min. u could call em ‘bite-size morsels from a curly mind’, but that’s more like somethin i would say. yous are free to call it whatever you like (“crap” being one of the words u could use).

both the UFK and this BLAUG have been on a bit of a hiatus the last couple months, this is for a bunch of reasons, none of which relates to music or awesome 80s neon pastel colours. but during that time off BASSCLEF, one half of The UnFunkWitables crew, was busy prepping the next huge installment of our monthly/bi-monthly mix series unearthing the greatest 80s funk n’ r&b gems out there. from what he tells me, BASSCLEF mixed the whole thing while running away from Biff Tannen on a hoverboard, but then he hit a body of water and…well, everyone knows hoverboards don’t work on water. these minor distractions aside, we are proud to present Mix #003: VOXBOX. in this installment, BASSCLEF takes us on a journey of wavering tempos, eras & facets of funk/r&b that the 80s so abundantly had to offer. pump this loud and come say hi to Mista Vee + BASSCLEF @ the official Facebook & Twitter pages 🙂

Mix #001

my older brother (aka BASSCLEF) and i (going by the general nom de plume Mista Vee, one which i’ve had before i knew there was a Mr. V on the scene) both share a passionate love of a genre of music we’ve dubbed, Obscure 80s Funk. France calls it boogie music, a genre that’s not quite disco and not quite JB funk, but a wonderful hybrid that is maybe only recently coming back in popularity, as is apparent by more and more neo-80s electro-funk acts on the scene. the more synth-tinged nature of the music could even be traced as the root of the current dominant electro-house. or perhaps ur just a fan of funky phat basslines, bangin drums, reverbed handclaps, spacey synth solos and 7min jams with a groovy breakdown around the 5min mark that consists of nothin but drums and poppin bass. simply put, the music is hard to resist. and we’ve found it hard to resist the pull of being the pushers of this sound. clearly we’re not the only ones, but we’d like to make a worthy addition to an oft-ignored genre that is simply littered with funky gems waiting to be heard.
