the Internetz is once again ablaze with D’Angelo fever as yet another unreleased demo recording leaks from what appears to be from the “James River” sessions (the tentative title of his upcoming album). here’s the interesting thing, though: it was leaked over a year ago in late 2010. what the fuck took so long for us to realise?? lol. anyways, the jury is once again split on the effort. i’m in the camp that digs it, and the more abstract he gets with it, the better (imo). but i understand the negative reactions too. however most of the leaks over the last few years have been rough-as-guts and unfinished demos that D’ may or may not have wanted to be made public (he got salty bout “Really Love” getting out there). i think it’s nice to hear recordings like this regardless. it’s just good to know he’s out there doin his thing again and staying out of court and/or rolling SUVs. free stream below via Soundcloud and mp3 link below that.
another solid indication that D’Angelo is making a serious attempt at a rebirth is the recently-announced mini European tour! major news. you lucky fucks in the EU can go see him and the band (which i believe features Pino Palladino and Jesse Johnson among others) at the following dates n places:
