by now y’all should have a hint that i’m a big Foo Fighters nut. say what you want about all the other dope music shit i’m into and post up on my blog and elsewhere on the Interwebz, the Foo have a very special place close to my heart. their latest monster album “Wasting Light“, which was recorded on TAPE in Dave’s garage studio at home, is still going mega strong late into 2011. right now it’s easily in the official top 5 C.O.A.C.M albums of the year. on top of being kickass musicians, Grohl + the Foo have been touring the U.S. of A (and the surrounding territories) playing in peoples homes, garages, barns and basements. how often does arguably THE biggest rock band in the fucking world come down to earth and boogie with their fans? almost fucking never (should be your answer). all this while playing the big-ass tours, festivals and cutting music videos. as even more of a treat, all the footage has been compiled into one 40min full length video on teh YooToobz.
also for my Aussie brethren, the Foo have announced dates for their upcoming tour later in the year. peep below and hurry cos i think the shits may already be sold out or definitely on the way to selling out (as per the graphic, the tour will also feature Tenacious D. how fuckin rad is that?!).

the Foo Fighters continue to roll on with the epicness that has been the Wasting Light album, releasing a brand shpankin new music vid for their latest single, “Walk”. the concept of the video is based entirely on the film Falling Down featuring Michael Douglas as the disillusioned anti-hero D-FENS (William Foster, employed as a defense engineer, thus the nickname).
i’ve included some of the more iconic moments from the film that were also used in the Foo vid for ur reference. enjoyyyyyyyuh.
March 14, 2011 FOO FIGHTERS: music videos for “Rope” & “White Limo” + trailer for the upcoming documentary film: “Back And Forth”
2011 is shaping up to be another YEAR OF THE FOO. this event happens pretty much every and any time the band releases new material, as there’s usually a string of hit singles, awesome album tracks & better-than-you-think-they-are-cos-you’ve-probly-never-heard-them b-sides. and for up to a year after its release, a new Foo Fighters album will rule my world. this year, however, is particularly special as the band have their very own doco film coming out in April entitled Back And Forth. it’s directed by Oscar winner James Moll & covers the Foos entire career, all the way up to including the garage band recording style of their latest album Wasting Light (the band now seems to be officially at 5 ppl with the return of Pat Smear). peep the trailer below.
on top of that, the DIY music vid for the first single Rope was also just released (directed by Dave Grohl).
White Limo is another awesome choon that the boys made a vid to (also DIY style) as an homage to classic 80s hard rock videos (quite effective in its simplicity, this is the kinda video the Foos were built to make). and yes that’s Lemmy from Motörhead as the limo driver.
let the YEAR OF THE FOO commence!
February 28, 2011 FOO FIGHTERS – Wasting Light (2011) + 1st single “Rope” & 30sec snippet of “Bridge Burning”
OHFUCKINGHELLYEASUNUVABITCHMUTHAFUCKER! i know this blog might be a little soul-centric when it comes to music, but a side of me which i have yet to fully expose on C.O.A.C.M is my undying love of all things rock, chief among all rockers my deep love of Dave Grohl & Foo Fighters. it was a moment of emotional weakness that opened up the door to their music many years ago. i guess u could call me a reverse fan. i didn’t get into em til their 3rd album, and it was the slower songs that really appealed to me more than anything else (shit like Ain’t It The Life, although i did develop a quick love of Generator which was new to me as i wasn’t really a rock head, in whatever derivative form it presented itself). in particular the song Next Year resonated the most as it was the theme song of one of my favourite tv shows of all-time, Ed (starring Tom Cavanagh). ever since then i gradually liked them more and more til i became an absolute nutjob for their music. all of it. studio albums were one things, but these guys got an immense and awesome b-side collection too. and after 2007′s Echoes, Silence, Patience & Grace album, which to me marked a cementing of their legacy, i’ve been waiting ever since to see…where exactly they could go next? and thus we come to Rope and the new album Wasting Light (due out in April), that supposedly returns the band to the sound of their debut album, is recorded entirely on analogue tape at Grohl’s home studio & is probly gonna be the grungiest the Foos have been in a LONG time. as a fan of ALL incarnations of the Foos, this is awesome news. before u go apeshit with Rope, please wet your beak with track 1 off the album called Bridges Burning, quite possibly the FUCKING COOLEST 30 SECONDS OF ANYTHING I’VE HEARD IN A LONG TIME.
and i also gotta note, i like it when aging rockers defy the career stereotype of mellowing more with age when it comes to music. i love mellow rock as much as the next undercover emo douchebag, but just cos u hit ur 40s doesn’t mean u stop getting angry at stuff or lose ur edge. i look forward to thoroughly bangin my head around to Wasting Light when it eventually explodes onto the scene (farkn APRIL?!? get here already).
