September 3, 2012 MISTA VEE PRESENTS…THE BABYGIRL SUITE: PT. I + II (my 2012 AALIYAH tribute mix featuring the finest babygirl bootleg remixes & covers)
presenting my two-part tribute to one of the most influential female artists of her generation, Aaliyah Dana Haughton. i have spent a decade wondering how i could show my love and appreciation for this lady being a part of my musical upbringing (by way of the massive talents of Da Bassment clique’s Timbaland, Missy Elliott and Static Major). and instead of just putting together a best of compilation as anyone else can, i scoured the Internets instead to find THE finest bootleg remixes and cover versions of babygirl classics. i believe this is the best collection as any you will find online.

August 4, 2012 VAHÉ // VEE’Z DEMO TAPE (2012) // VEE’Z 90s MIX (SIDE A + B)
for the better part of 2012 i been tinkering around with my own music sheit, aiming to release a “demo tape” (online as well as on actual cassette tape). the hour is now upon us: this is probly the best collection of songs i’ve ever produced. the ingestion of which is made all the more easier by the entertaining interludes that also litter it (consisting of ppl i know saying random crap). while my vocal abilities could always improve, i stand by all the music on this 90min monster of a demo. a good portion of these will get the proper makeover and released as singles with guest vocalists (followed shortly thereafter by my first ever real foray into music videos. exciting stuff (for me)). as always, for anyone who has ever followed my solo musical endeavours, this shit is FO FREE. i’ve never charged money for my music for anyone and any situation, and i don’t intend to start now. i know that makes me sound like i’m up my own ass, but i merely state that as someone who enjoys a shitload of free music, it ain’t no thang for me to do the same. besides, i’ve never relied on any aspects of my creative self for financial stability. hard enuf trin to find any kinda work these days, let alone ur dream shit. April 30, 2012 HUSH/SLUT – SLUTlets Vol. 1 (2012)
i’m currently in the midst of working on new music for a full 10 track LP of HUSH/SLUT material (featuring rappers, poets & singers amongst other musos (if i can get em)), and i wanted to turf some of these leftover beats i had that i wasn’t gonna do anything with. decided to release em in short but sweet bursts known as SLUTlets. 7 beats in 8mins. i know i’m bias as hayl but it’s got some pretty decent replay value. Vol. 2 is gonna be much more cohesive with around 10 beats (which is kinda what i wanna average em at).
tracklist:
01. hazel
02. pre-cum
03. fall
04. getting over
05. soulare
06. intracosmos
07. dread

April 27, 2012 CONFESSIONS OF A CURLY MIND Vol. 1
a couple of months ago i put the call out (mostly via Okayplayer) for indie/bedroom artists to submit their links and/or music to a new compilation i was putting together, named after my blog as it’s intended to be exclusive to here. the idea is to expose y’all to more than the norm but shining a light in as many musical corners as possible. as a result i’ve been able to compile 24 slick tunes ranging from soulful hip hop, to beats, to spaced out dub, funk, acoustic, NEO neo soul & a track or two that i can’t really classify in the traditional sense. all up, it’s nearly 80mins of great tunes and you don’t need money to listen or enjoy the shit. all i (and i guess by extension, we) ask is you take the chance to listen and possibly discover some new favourite artists in the process
if you’d prefer a single file download check it out via Soundcloud, or grab the separated/tracked links below the tracklist.

November 28, 2011 Vahé – Bits N’ Pieces (2011)
Vahé
Bits N’ Pieces
genre: EveryFuckingThing
a 79min roller-coaster ride of the various musical nuggets i’ve concocted over the years. features released, unreleased and some REALLY unreleased material. stuff ranging back from 2002/03 when i first started all the way up to November 2011. for reasons that no longer matter, i got sick of holding on to large quantities of unfinished music. ideas come and go, but a finished product seems to be hard to come by. so instead of agonising over a small handful of songs, i thought i’d go in the opposite direction and just dump 75 of em on y’all instead. luckily each track has been trimmed to an average length b/w 30secs-1min. u could call em ‘bite-size morsels from a curly mind’, but that’s more like somethin i would say. yous are free to call it whatever you like (“crap” being one of the words u could use).
fair warning: includes snippets of me singing, rapping and/or fucking around. approach with open mind, sense of humour & spliff in hand.

October 31, 2011 Vahé:LeisureCAST – 021. I’m A Mess
Vahé:LeisureCAST – 021. I’m A Mess
after what seems like an eternity (roughly 10 months, in fact), the LeisureCAST mix series finally returns with one intense, glorious, rocked-out 78mins. i mean think about it: 10 months. i change my musical obsession DAILY. the amount of music i’ve managed to be exposed to and absorb over that time has been immense, not to mention really fucking exciting lol. as is always the way, my foray into thrash/noise/stoner/psychedelic rock (modern variants) is what finally sparked me to get back in the game. this is definitely not something a long-time listener might dig or even expect, but it is what it is. and “it” just happens to be fucking kick-ass
you may have noticed the cover is the first real stylistic shift from the previous standard template i’ve been using. i figure it’s time to get more creative all-around. you can download the mix either in its separate track/chopped format (via mediafire), or stream/download the one-track file directly from the Soundcloud link below. hope y’all dig it

June 2, 2011 Vahé – The Melancholy Metro (2004)
following on with the Gil Scott-Heron vibe, i previously used “Song For Bobby Smith (Alternate Take)” in a 2004 compilation called “The Melancholy Metro”, a very downer and demure mix i made whilst in the throes of massive heartache. i present the mix for y’all today in memory of the man and his passing. and also in memory of Eternal Sunshine Of The Spotless Mind, a film which served as the impetus and continuing inspiration for making this mix in the first place (a couple of Jon Brion‘s songs from the soundtrack/score appear in the mix). stream/download it as one single file via the newly minted Confessions Of A Curly Mind SoundCloud page.
tracklist:
01. jon brion – down the drain
02. gary jules – mad world
03. sandboy – pomegranate (feat. nanar vorperian)
04. antonio carlos jobim – once i loved (feat. shirly horn)

May 5, 2011 Vahé – Every Man Is An Island (Ruff Mix)
i used to make beats, sometimes even these musical entities called “songs”. recently i had a mini resurgence and created this ruff draft beat using Leisure Suit Larry 3 music as the sample source. i kinda dig it. the vibe is all thoughtful n shit, n slightly melancholy. the pic i used is from a trip i took to a place called Green Island off the coast of Cairns. added to the sun/water theme is a lil quote i snagged from Dark City (it’s the two voices u hear near the end).
it’s from a beattape-type project i’m currently working on, tentatively titled Ken Sent Me, named so cos i’ll be using LSL game music as the main sample sources (minus drums and other random shit). the undercurrent seems to be a yearning for the idyllic island life (or at least that’s the story i’m sticking to).

March 27, 2011 Vahé Presents…The Leisure Suite mixes #001-010 (2006-2008)
updated the BLAUG with the addition of yet another audio archive, that of my 10-part mix series Vahé Presents…The Leisure Suite. beginning in 2006 and ending in 2008, this was my first serious attempt at sustaining an entire series of quality tunes, and i guess was generally the golden opportunity i gave myself to hone whatever burgeoning mixing and selection skills i had. going back through them again the last few days, the mixes still hold up pretty well. and i know there used to be a little following back in the day for em, so here they are. all 10 mixes archived and ready for listenin

Abstract Truth – Like Water (Drip-Hop Mix)
Abstract Truth, a modern soul/jazz/house/broken beat project featuring Monique Bingham & helmed by bandleader/founder & producer Dana Vlcek (along with Ravi Best, Vincent Chauncey, Jephté Guillaume, Guy Daniels, & Pete Mark). they released some really hot singles in 1996/97 like Get Another Plan & (We Had) A Thing and then vanished without a trace. the Drip-Hop Mix of Like Water is from the Get Another Plan EP (1996) and is a lot more water-like in its changing structure than the original vocal version. that and i used to listen to this profusely when catching the train to University back in the day. expect more blogging to occur on this short-lived yet awesome group of musos.
Lee Fields – You Don’t Know What You Mean (To A Lover Like Me)
from the vintage-but-not-vintage Daptone Records “vault” (this entire description can’t help but be tongue-in-cheek). Lee Fields performs a scorchin hot funk classic, taken from the Daptone 7 Inch Singles Collection Vol. 2 (2008).
Arkarna – House On Fire (Acoustic Version)
i still think it’s rather unbelievable a group like Arkarna is barely known to the average music listener anymore. although some critics derided them for essentially biting the styles of others (when the very same artists they were accused of biting were co-signing the band and even lending their expertise in the studio), Arkarna is an awesome hybrid band that plays a style of music that can only be described as a genre mishmash, a GUMBO, if u will of aural flavas. on their debut album Fresh Meat (1997), for instance, you’ll hear electro-pop, acoustic power ballads, grunge rock, acid techno, and HINTS of Prince (further expanded upon with Skin from their 2nd album The Family Album (1999), which seems to have mysteriously vanished from YouTube, but is one of the funkiest jams they’ve ever made). they’re still active and are working on releasing their newest album, due out any day now. keep in touch via The Official Arkarna Music YouTube Channel. House On Fire is one of their most well-known songs, this acoustic version appears as a hidden/bonus track at the very end of Fresh Meat (1997).
Lulu Jackson – Careless Love
a true buried melancholy gem that appears on Last Kind Words (1926-1953) (2008), an album full of old OLD super rare gospel & blues 78s compiled and released by Mississippi Records. the low-fi quality of the recording only adds to its appeal for me as a nice acoustic ditty bout the follies of love and lust. plus i could imagine this song being used in Punch-Drunk Love (2002) which may explain my extra amounts of love for it.
Gaelle – Ghost In The Machine
i seem to have developed an M.O. over the years for worshiping a certain kind of female musician, one that conjures up images of Sade and Aaliyah, not so much the appearance but the ethereal semi-mystic quality that they exude. Gaelle Adisson is one such semi-mystic quality exuder. this is one of many unreleased tracks that Gaelle briefly made available a few years ago. i’m told it’s from the 1998 sessions with Chris Brann (who also produced this track). shame it never got a release but i guess now it kinda did? *shrugs*
